In the second edition of the Young Americas Forum, young entrepreneurs and leaders throughout the hemisphere gathered in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 15 and 16 April 2009. They discussed issues that affect their realities in an event which gathered more than four participants.
The Forum brought together young people from across the Americas, to promote leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation and self-empowerment. Based on the framework the economic crisis in different countries, affecting young people and require coordinated action between governments, the private sector and civil society.
The Dialogues Forum were focused on issues concerning youth entrepreneurship, innovation, promotion of technologies to connect the Americas, corporate social responsibility, best practices in business, youth migration, ethics and business. There was also a hardworking effort regarding youthopportunities in energy, environment and development of new energy sources.
The Young Americas Forum is an official event of the V Summit of the Americas, which created a platform for young people to present their recommendations to the Heads of State and Government of the Americas gathered in Trinidad and Tobago.
Is important to point that, in this second Forum arises the opportunity for Young people of the Americas to be invited to participate as a Social Actor of the Summit. They were the protagonists of this meeting in Trinidad and Tobago, participating in each round table, being builders of the discussions to the Youth Declaration and Plan of Action of Port of Spain.
There the youth expressed: "We understand that we possess the knowledge required to lead business projects that can help in health promotion, wealth creation and deliver value and purpose to our communities and societies.
They urged governments to reform education systems to better equip students and educators of the realities and demands of life and the global market should be adapted to the needs, culture and development goals of each country.
In this II Forum young people committed to involved in awareness campaigns about the importance of energy conservation. They urged governments to lead by example through the use of renewable energy and they must provide incentives and develop policies to promote the efficient use of available resources and also invest in research and development related to alternative energy sources.
Also create campaigns about resources, environment, waste management, pollution prevention. Encourage governments to design and implement development policies that support sustainable environmental practices.
