The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) in cooperation with the Organization of American States, PepsiCo, CBC, Visión Banco and the Government of Paraguay, are pleased to announce the winners of the ninth edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas 2014). The TIC Americas Awards ceremony took place last Monday, June 2 in the Central Bank of Paraguay.
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Eladio Loizaga, the founder of YABT Roy Thomasson, and Javier Whittingslow Franchise Senior Director Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile from PepsiCo. YABT CEO, Luis Viguria, chaired the Awards Ceremony.
The TIC Americas Finals were held at the Convention Hall of the Central Bank of Paraguay, on June 1st and 2nd, as the opening event for the XLIV General Assembly of the OAS. TIC Americas is a program of the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) that supports young entrepreneurs in the hemisphere and worldwide. This year, TIC Americas included three main categories: Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC), Eco-Challenge, and TIC Paraguay.
In addition, the People’s Choice Award is given to the business team selected by their peers and attendees of the TIC Americas Expo. This year we are pleased to announce that the team Oga Katupyry, from Paraguay, was the recipient of this award.
The category of Talent and Innovation (TIC) includes two subcategories: Social Innovation and Economic Innovation. This category evaluates business and social projects that show creativity and new ideas in the proposal or business strategy. TIC awards are a joint initiative between YABT, the Executive Secretariat for Sustainable Development of the OAS, and the General Secretariat of the OAS. Moreover, YABT Staff recognizes the remarkable commitment of the national and international judges when evaluating all finalists. The success of the Ninth Edition of TIC Americas would have not been possible without their contribution.
This announcement ends the Ninth Edition of TIC Americas, held in Asuncion, Paraguay, in which 24 teams of talented young people from 16 countries throughout the hemisphere competed over the past two days. YABT is delighted with the outcome of this year’s competition given that more than 4,000 young people registered their businesses, and intends to increase the participation of young entrepreneurs for the Tenth Edition of TIC Americas, next year. YABT staff were thrilled at the turnout of more than 400 people who attended the 2-day finals.
The YABT Staff, finalists, sponsors, partners, judges, volunteers and the rest of the public were pleased to take part in the closing concert performed by the Orchestra of Recycled Instruments of Cateura. This concert was in honor of the XV Anniversary of the Young Americas Business Trust, in special recognition of Mr. Lou Ferrand with the support of H.E. Ambassador Janette Hyde, and Mr. Roy Thomasson.
Winners of the competition will receive support services in order to strengthen and enhance their projects. TIC Americas is an international competition for business creation and accelerator for young entrepreneurs that goes beyond the development of a business plan to incorporate monitoring, international visibility, networking and market access.
YABT is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1999, as a private sector initiative that promotes social and economic development among young people worldwide. YABT works in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) promoting and facilitating opportunities for youth spaces and tools for eradicating poverty and improving the living conditions of young people in the Americas.
